Chlamydia trachomatis polymorphic membrane protein D is a species-common pan-neutralizing antigen.
Infections caused by the obligate intracellular pathogen Chlamydia trachomatis have a marked impact on human health. C. trachomatis serovariants are the leading cause of bacterial sexually transmitted disease and infectious preventable blindness. Despite decades of effort, there is no practical vaccine against C. trachomatis diseases. Here we report that all C. trachomatis reference serotypes r...
متن کاملChlamydia trachomatis polymorphic membrane protein D is a virulence factor involved in early host-cell interactions.
Chlamydia trachomatis is an obligate intracellular mucosotropic pathogen of significant medical importance. It is the etiological agent of blinding trachoma and bacterial sexually transmitted diseases, infections that afflict hundreds of millions of people globally. The C. trachomatis polymorphic membrane protein D (PmpD) is a highly conserved autotransporter and the target of broadly cross-rea...

Genomic analysis of the Chlamydiaceae has revealed a multigene family encoding large, putatively autotransported polymorphic membrane proteins (Pmps) with nine members in the sexually transmitted pathogen Chlamydia trachomatis. While various pathogenesis-related functions are emerging for the Pmps, observed genotypic and phenotypic variation among several chlamydial Pmps in various Chlamydia sp...
متن کاملTopological analysis of Chlamydia trachomatis L2 outer membrane protein 2.
Using monospecific polyclonal antisera to different parts of Chlamydia trachomatis L2 outer membrane protein 2 (Omp2), we show that the protein is localized at the inner surface of the outer membrane. Omp2 becomes immunoaccessible when Chlamydia elementary bodies are treated with dithiothreitol, and protease digestions indicate that Omp2 has a possible two-domain structure.
متن کاملChlamydia trachomatis: common misperceptions and misunderstandings.
Responsible for more than three million infections each year in the United States, Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) poses a public health problem of epidemic proportions.1–10 Unequivocal evidence of sexual transmission makes CT both the most commonly reported bacterial sexually transmitted disease (STD) in the US and the nation’s most commonly reported bacterial infection.1–10 Chlamydial infections a...
